Patina and a Glimpse of It

We would like to share something ” magic ” in Leather World.  Below is a glimpse of Patina.

For leather fans, they really appreciate the beauty and ” natural material ” of a leather product. Both in the form of leather shoes, watch straps, leather bags or even leather jackets. In genuine leather, like denim, they will change with time and usage, and this is where the “beauty” of leather products is. For those of you who are wondering what and how beauty is, the answer is only one: Patina.

What is Patina?

Raw leather will become more mature and produce patina as oil on the skin and other elements in the surrounding environment and absorbed by the skin. Patina itself is not a negative thing, it is precisely the main reason people fall in love with raw leather products. The change in the colour of the young tan into various forms of brown colour resulting from daily use. Like denim, you might not notice it, but if you look at the before and after photos, you will be able to see dramatic differences.

What causes Patina?

Not only leather, but wood, canvas, metal and even stone can produce unique colour differences over the use and circumstances of the surrounding environment. For leather products, you can produce dramatic colour changes if your leather products are unfinished. Products that have a finishing touch will produce a patina that is weaker compared to matte, aniline or raw skin.

To produce it, you just need to do one simple thing – use it continuously. Natural wear, splashes of water, oil from your body, even exposure to sunlight will cause patina that is different from one another. For those of you who can’t wait to change, you can speed up the process by treating the skin with more extreme conditions such as using it in water or drying under the sun directly.

Either natural or accelerated, the leather patina will make your leather unique and naturally more beautiful. And thus a glimpse of Patina.
